Doctors Amputate Zsa Zsa Gabor's Right Leg
Zsa Zsa Gabor had almost all of her own right leg successfully amputated Friday, just about two weeks right after she had been hospitalized by having an infected lesion which may doctors feared might cost the particular actress her life.
Gabor, who turns 94 in Feb. 6, had been observed carefully, however there have been no complications, doctors at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center explained right after the surgery.
"The surgery today went well, however, she is in frail health so we will continue to monitor her closely," said Dr. David Rigberg, associate professor associated with vascular surgery.
Gabor, that obtained an infection in her leg for many months, had been hospitalized in Jan. 2 after attempts to conserve her leg using antibiotics unsuccessful.
Gabor broke her hip together with replacement surgery in July, and it has been hospitalized many times since for swelling in her legs and blood clots all over her body. Publicist John Blanchette mentioned the wounds would not heal, therefore doctors had no choice but to operate.
Within the Friday surgery, about three-quarters of Gabor's right leg had been removed, starting just above that knee, according to TMZ.
Her right leg was previously damaged; she had been using a wheelchair after a car accident in 2002 and a stroke in 2005. The actress and socialite received last rites from a priest in August.
